The Scout Promises

Once you’ve been coming along to scout meetings for a little while, we will talk with you about making your promise and becoming invested as a scout.  You need to discuss with your parents/carers which of the promises you will make. There is a short ceremony where you will be called up in front of the troop, you recite your promise, and you get invested into the troop, and the world-wide family of scouting.

There are different promises for British citizens of different faiths, and those with no faith, and a different promise for those who are not British citizens.  The UK scout website has a page describing the different possibilities, but here is a simplified list:

For British Christians, Jews and Sikhs:

On my honour,
I promise that I will do my best
to do my duty to God and to The Queen,
to help other people
and to keep the Scout Law.

For British Muslims:

In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent the Most Merciful,
I promise that I will do my best
to do my duty to Allah and to The Queen,
to help other people
and to keep the Scout Law.

For British Hindus:

On my honour,
I promise that I will do my best
to do my duty to my Dharma and to The Queen,
to help other people
and to keep the Scout Law.

For British Humanists, athiests, or no faith:

On my honour,
I promise that I will do my best
to uphold our Scout values, to do my duty to the Queen,
to help other people
and to keep the Scout Law.

For other nationalities

For people of other nationalities resident in the United Kingdom taking the Scout Promise, the phrase “duty …to the Queen‟ may be replaced by “duty…to the Country in which I am now living‟
